The Gift of Music Foundation is proud to announce that our After School Music Enrichment Program has received generous support from The D’Addario Foundation for 2018. The foundation seeks out high quality, impactful instrument instruction programs in communities of need, awarding grants and product donations to assist their growth and development. Scott Keefer, Communications Director for the Gift of Music Foundation says they are honored to have been selected. “D’Addario is a powerful name in the musical instrument world, and the work their Foundation does for music is amazing. This funding helps us to grow and expand our ability to make music classes available in areas where they have been eliminated, or are cost-prohibitive.” Keefer added, “when you see the smiles on the faces of students discovering their musical abilities, it’s easy to see how important this is.”
Bringing Music To Kids
The Gift of Music Foundation began the After School Music Enrichment Programs in 2015 after local school systems shuttered some programs for elementary-aged kids. The program is a series beginner-level instrumental music classes designed to give kids in grades 3-5 a head start on the basics of reading music and learning their instruments. The Gift of Music also provides free or subsidized musical instruments to many of the students and programs as part of the mission to make music available to anyone, regardless of their ability to pay.
The D’Addario Foundation website notes that their organization “believes in the power of music to unlock creativity, boost self-confidence, and enhance academics. By making music education accessible, we can positively affect social change and foster better citizens of the world.” This aligns perfectly with the work of The Gift of Music Foundation in the Atlanta area. We are excited to work together for the kids we support, #BecauseMusicMatters
