Our After School Music Enrichment Program replaces music classes eliminated by public schools.
The After School Music Enrichment Program provides students in grades 3-5 with a 9-month beginners instrumental program at participating public schools. The curriculum focuses primarily on learning to read musical notes and play selected instruments, with classes meeting twice a week.
There are currently two sessions per school year and each concludes with a public performance by the students to showcase their newly acquired musical skills. We’re proud of our current directors including Program Director Alonzo Taylor, Rodney Allen Sr., Forest Hopkins, Sherri Thames, and Rodney Allen Jr. We also have a fantastic team of young adult “mentors” who assist and teach our students, most of whom are current or future music educators.
Our initial programs began in 2015 at West Manor Elementary School and DeKalb Alternative School. We have since expanded into other parts of metro Atlanta and more than 100 kids take part in our programs!
Our current list of program locations includes band classes at Heritage Academy, Westside Atlanta Charter, Beecher Hills Elementary, Miles Elementary, West Manor Elementary, and more coming soon. We are proud to introduce new programs for the current school year that expand our offerings into choral/show choir and strings!
