New Scholarship for Young Guitar Players

Jordan Dickerson loved music, and the scholarship fund in his honor will pass that love on to a deserving young guitar player.

The Gift of Music Foundation is excited to join with the Jordan Dickerson Memorial “Share The Music” Foundation, to provide a unique scholarship opportunity for a young guitar student in the Atlanta area.  Jordan Dickerson was a talented and loved young man whose life ended sadly in December, 2015.  His family, building off of Jordan’s love of music and guitar playing established their foundation to keep his memory alive by passing along the opportunity to develop a young person’s love for music.  The Gift of Music Foundation will administer the scholarship in Jordan’s name, in conjunction with our new private lessons are – The Gift of Music Lessons & More.

The scholarship is designed to provide the resources for an individual aged 8 – 18 to have the chance to learn to play guitar, or to improve their skills.  The scholarship will provide the recipient with a new acoustic or electric guitar along with a full year of private guitar lessons.  The application process is now open, and can be completed online through the website.  To enter the scholarship competition, each applicant will submit a short video (or written essay) describing their passion for music and what it means in their life.  The award will be presented November 28th at a special event called “Jammin’ for Jordan” at Roswell River Landing.

Kathryn Gale is the founder of Jordan’s Foundation. “Jordan loved life, loved music, loved sports, loved sharing and always took the extra time to help anyone who crossed his path. As a self taught musician, he played everywhere and anywhere he had a chance.  He wrote several songs and loved playing for his family and friends.  His battle with addiction did not stop his love for music, as Jordan played with his fellow patrons both in and out of rehab.”  Gale added that she “wanted to give his parents something special when he passed and it took me months to come up with an idea.  It hit me while I was driving in Virginia this summer – how can I help keep Jordan’s memory and legacy alive…music.  The idea to give back to the community by providing an instrument to someone who could otherwise not afford one seemed to fit the perfect gift.  I called his mom and shared my idea with her – silence was on the other end – then her tears started to flow.  She was overwhelmed and so thankful.  We both cried and knew this would be a fitting tribute to his life”.
