For many people, music is close to their heart. And when it comes time to pursue charitable endeavors, giving back to the music world can be one of the best options. There are many ways you can give back to music charities, depending on your time, finances, and resources. See our tips below:

Donate your instruments.

Many music charities have the goal of providing affordable and accessible instruments to people of all backgrounds. If you have an instrument you no longer use, consider donating it to a music charity. You might think that the old violin collecting dust in your attic isn’t “good enough” to donate, but rest assured that music charities find value in all instrument donations. Many even have dedicated repair shops where donated instruments are repaired and cleaned so that they are suitable for playing again. Your old violin could be the reason that a child in difficult circumstances falls in love with music.

Donate your money.

When you donate to a music charity, you are helping them share the gift of music with the world and further their mission. A little goes a long way, and you don’t have to donate hundreds of dollars to make a difference. Some music charities even let you choose which parts of their program your donation goes to. That means that if you are really passionate about a certain aspect of music or music education, you can donate directly where you want to. Even $5 can make a world of a difference.

Donate your time.

If you don’t have the financial means to donate, and don’t have any old instruments, but you still want to help, don’t worry! Almost all music charities have ways you can donate your time to help further their mission. The needs of each individual charity vary, but you can expect to help by:

  • Attending meetings to advocate for more funding in music education
  • Providing teaching and training to music students
  • Helping process instrument donations

Most music charities will have a section of their website you can visit to learn all of the ways you can help.
